Cathleen Calvert is a pretty County girl whom Scarlett gossips with about Rhett Butler at the Wilkes’s barbecue. After the war Cathleen’s mother, Mrs. Calvert, moves back north, and Cathleen has no other choice but to marry her family’s Yankee overseer, Hilton. After marrying Hilton, Cathleen becomes ashamed of herself, and she ultimately has to mortgage her house. Later, Scarlett finds out her house was bought by a Black family.
