It’s Kind of a Funny Story: Chapter 36 Summary & Analysis

Summary
Analysis
The next day, Humble is away. Bobby suggests that staff probably took him to a different wing to put him on heavier drugs. Bobby and Johnny talk about how they were on a lot of drugs together as teens and how it made them miss a lot of good concerts they would have liked to see. Johnny starts talking about how Craig should get with Noelle because she’s cute, but Bobby scolds him, saying Johnny has a daughter Noelle’s age.
The doctors give Humble less free will to make his own decisions than Craig, but the novel does not necessarily condemn the hospital, leaving open the question of what would be the most ethical way to treat a potentially difficult patient like Humble. Bobby and Johnny both represent a version of how Craig’s life could turn out in the future, but they try to persuade him not to follow the same life course they did.
