Jorah Mormont Character Analysis

Jorah is Commander Jeor Mormont’s son. Jorah fled Westeros in disgrace after he sold two poachers to a slaver instead of sending them to the Night’s Watch. Ned was in charge of enforcing Jorah’s punishment, and Jorah holds a grudge against Ned as a result. Jorah meets Viserys and Daenerys at Daenerys’s wedding to Khal Drogo. Jorah then works for Viserys, whom he seems to despise. Jorah sends information to Varys about Viserys and Daenerys in hopes that he can secure a pardon from the king that will allow him to return to Westeros. Jorah tells Varys when Daenerys becomes pregnant, which results in Robert’s plot to kill Viserys, Daenerys, and Daenerys’s unborn child. Despite his role as an informant to the king, Jorah becomes one of Daenerys’s most trusted confidants and saves Daenerys from a wine merchant’s attempt to poison her. At the end of the novel, Jorah pledges his fealty to Daenerys as his queen.
