Fever Pitch: Chapter 49 Summary & Analysis

Summary
Analysis
The season following the incident at Heysel, football culture seems to deteriorate. Arsenal plays poorly, and the crowds are sparser than ever. Nick takes a young Italian student to see an Arsenal game and he is embarrassed by how uneventful and boring the game is. Very few people show up for the game, and the ones who do seem uninterested.
It's a bold move for Nick to take his Italian student to an Arsenal game so soon after the Heysel Disaster, but his intentions seem to be apologetic—he aims to redeem himself and English football in general. Despite everything, Nick still believes in Arsenal. This is an unsuccessful pursuit.
