Fever Pitch: Chapter 55 Summary & Analysis

Summary
Analysis
Nick’s depression is at its worst, and he is in therapy. He doesn’t know why he feels so bad, since he has friends and family and a job, but he feels inexplicably cursed. Nick goes straight from his psychiatrist’s office to see Tottenham v Arsenal. It’s a great game in which Arsenal makes a shocking comeback and wins. Nick is thrilled, and in the aftermath of this game he feels cured from his depression. That day, he becomes a mere Arsenal fan instead of an Arsenal “lunatic.”
This is not the first time that Nick believes he is no longer obsessed with football, so it remains to be seen whether he’s correct this time. That said, his obsession does seem to diminish over time as his career and mental health improve.
