Fever Pitch: Chapter 50 Summary & Analysis

Summary
Analysis
In light of the riot at Heysel, the UK government bans alcohol at football games. The ban is met with widespread criticism, which Nick finds disturbing. He agrees that alcohol is not the root cause of the violence at football games, but it probably exacerbates it, and the alcohol ban at least shows respect to the Italian victims and a willingness to change. Due to pressure from football clubs and fans, the alcohol ban is repealed just weeks after it is enacted.
Again, Nick has always found the violent and destructive aspects of football fandom distressing, even though he is as devoted a fan as they come. Despite how off-putting Nick finds the recent changes in football culture, he remains a loyal Arsenal fan for life.
