Isabella Olivares Character Analysis

Doña Isabella Olivares is Antonio Olivares’s second wife and Inez Olivares’s mother. Born in New Orleans and educated in France, Isabella blends a devout Catholicism with a love of fine parties and gossip. Her vanity—particularly her desire to appear much younger than she is—almost prevents her from testifying in court to maintain her husband’s inheritance. But after some interference from Latour and Vaillant, Isabella is able to sacrifice her own material desires, instead choosing to prioritize her daughter’s financial welfare and the money that will fund Latour’s new cathedral.
